Garage and Workshop Lighting Installation in the Lower Mainland
A garage often has very different lighting needs from a living room. Parking, bicycle storage, shelving and workbench tasks all require clear visibility. One old bulb above the garage door may create deep shadows at the exact places you need to see.
Divide the garage into useful zones
Start by deciding how the garage is used. General lighting should illuminate the floor and storage area. A workbench may benefit from a dedicated task light, while shelves, utility equipment and interior steps need adequate visibility without glare.
Linear LED lights and other fixtures
Long LED fixtures can spread light across a work area, but fixture choice should suit ceiling height and possible impact or moisture exposure. Compare brightness, color temperature, diffusion and mounting requirements instead of choosing by wattage alone.
Avoid shadows from open garage doors
Overhead tracks and open sectional doors can block or reflect light. Before positioning fixtures, consider how the door behaves, where cars park and how frequently the garage will be used for projects or storage.
Switches and motion sensors
Convenient switching can make a garage more practical. Motion-sensor controls may work well for quick entry, while a dedicated manual switch can be better for detailed bench work. Sensor location should avoid nuisance operation.
Electrical conditions to check
Older wiring, insufficiently secured fixtures or a switch that gets warm should be evaluated before adding new lighting. Any new work must use suitable components and follow applicable requirements for the location.
